An experimental. I did this for an upcoming event in my office and the theme being "Spartans" i was requested to draw one. I have mixed water color and marker pen for first time. I guess its looking OK..
yay!! you're back subh!!! it's good to see you're still drawing.
first of all i loveeee the texture on this painting. the helmet and the shield look exquisite-- the gleam of rough, battered metal with the weathered grooves, cracks and holes of memory battles, the feathering of the arched helmet... really awesome! the roughness of the background just look like stormy clouds ready to battle the heavens themselves. i also love that the color scheme is very earth-toned and you counter it with the richness of the blue and the boldness of the purplish cape. i think the only thing i'd like to see is the hand and forearm being a little bigger because he's a barbaric soldier and he'd most likely have muscular arms and a huge hand. other than that it's beautiful.. congrats!
Yeh.. I am still alive... ... Sorry I was very much occupied for a while.. Thanks a bunch for your cool comments and faving!! I almost started liking it now.. I was not sure if mixing water color and marker pen would be a good idea or not... I went for it and till the end I was not convinced.. until now when I read your comment.. Yea.. the arm could have been broader.. but I did it so quickly that I didn't had enough time to look into a lot of details... It took almost 6-7 hours, I guess... I will show them tomorrow... I guess they will like it...
you should be proud of your work! it's awesome! don't beat yourself up, you do have talent my friend. do you know how many people can draw? over the years i always thought drawing was just a skill anyone can learn if one puts his mind to it. i've come to learn and accept recently that no, not everyone can draw and be creative. there are only a handful of people who can draw and i can honestly say of all the people i've met in my life i can count with one hand how many of them are talented enough to be considered artists. as king henry VIII once said, "i can take 7 peasants and make 7 lords. i can take 7 lords and not make one holbein." (i'm sure you know hans holbein was his favorite painter) so there you go... you're a "holbein" so be proud.
i couldn't find any flaws of mixing the water color with marker pens, but then again i am no expert with painting so don't quote me.
as far as the arm goes it looks good the way it is but i just picture soldiers with monstrous hands and ripped arms that's all-- again don't quote me haha. let us all know what your co-workers think, ok?
yay! i'm glad they all liked it-- there's no reason not to. that's cool that they have it displayed where everyone can see it before they walk in. and you don't have to thank me for anything-- i speak nothing but the truth and you should be proud of yourself... i mean it.
Thank you Eva!! Thanks for faving it as well. I m still learning to perfect my water coloring skill n when I would feel ready, I will give your Old Homestead a try.. no I haven't forgotten.. I just want to perfect myself before I go for it..
